Colossians 3
17And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
Many of our Lives are structured around routines. Every one of us have some kind of routine when you first wake up in the morning. One of the routines that my dad has passed on to me is going through the entire house checking the locks on the doors , and then checking the heat before going to bed. When you think of your loved ones, I am sure you think of the routines in your lives. Most of the time, our entire days are like that: there are times allotted for work, there are times allotted for the coffee shop, there are times allotted for family and friends and for God. Routines can be a very good thing it is called a schedule. Schedules bring balance to our lives and allow us to plan out our weeks. routines also can cause us to miss what God is trying to do in our lives.
There are Dangers in going through the motions:
If we are not careful our marriages become routine and fail to show our spouse how much we love them. Our Spouses get lost in the middle of going through the motions.
If we are not careful our work can become the same thing everyday and we forget that we are supposed to do everything we are doing, even our work, for God.
If we are not careful, we will grab our cup of coffee in the morning without taking a moment to ask the clerk how their morning is going? Do we head out the door going through the motions of our daily lives?
If they are allowed to routines can truly ruin our relationships with others and most importantly with God.
The Christian life is a relationship and not a routine. We must stop going through the motions and meet with the Messiah. As we grow in our relationship with Christ it will eventually get to the point where you make every decision that you make based on Christ, and not on our selves and our routines. Are you going through the motions or are you walking with the Lord?
I like your comment, “The Christian life is a relationship and not a routine.” That is a powerful statement that makes our Christian walk much different than religions. Thanks for sharing.
