Have you ever done something and knew the minute you did it that it was a big mistake? Today I made one of those decisions. I like to drive around and take pictures while i pray. This gives me an opportunity to be with God and enjoy his creation. Today was going great and i was really happy with some of the pictures i had taken already when i made a very poor decision. We have had a lot of moisture this winter and it keeps freezing and unfreezing.
Today happened to be one of those great days that the snow was melting. I was traveling the rock roads and got a long fine until i saw a dirt road up ahead. I have been able to take some of my favorite pictures i have ever taken on dirt roads so i decided that i would check it out. Wow, what a big mistake that turned out to be. Have you ever been on a dirt road that is completely full of ruts and is so soft it is trying to pull you into the ditch as soon as you enter it. I should of got off of it right away, but i thought there would be surely be a place to turn around soon. There was not a place to turn around and i spent 3 miles of the most stressful driving i have ever had to do.
I learned some lessons on the dirt road today. I learned that there are times in life that you end up somewhere you did not expect. I did not go out to take pictures today with the idea of almost getting the van stuck and raising my blood pressure by fifteen points. This is what happens in life, things happen that we do not expect. Even more dangerous, is when we know we shouldn’t do something and we do it anyway. I remember thinking , as i saw that dirt road, that I really should not try it without four wheel drive. I guess the farm boy in me came out and i tried it any way. There are times in our lives we are going to take wrong turns. How many of us have made mistakes and had our lives go in directions that we did not expect? How many times do we think we are doing the right thing when we soon find out we have made a wrong turn.
While i was driving down that dirt road today, i felt the back end fishtail and i got stuck several times. This is like life. We will make mistakes, but we need to keep going. God knows we are going to make mistakes and make wrong turns and he loves us anyway. Your life may not be going in the direction you want it to be going, you may have taken a wrong turn. There may be some of you that have sinned greatly and believe that God will not accept you. If you trust Christ, he will guide you through this. He knows the way, and he is the way, the truth and life. By the grace of God, I got home safely today. Someday God will take all of us home if we stay on his road. There will be rough times, there will be potholes in life and times where there looks like there is no hope. Are you following the path that leads to life? Are you following Jesus Christ? There will be times we take the wrong path, but if we trust in Christ he will lead us home. It is when we take our eyes off of him, or begin to think we can handle things ourselves that we find ourselves on the wrong path.
I Corinthians 15
56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
